MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A pair of brothers are donating $75 million dollars to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Engineering in efforts to fuel construction of a new, long-awaited engineering building.

Announced Wednesday at Bascom Hall, the contribution marks the largest single gift to the university’s engineering college.

UW-Madison alumni Marvin and Jeffery Levy were proud to announce the gift honoring the memory of their brother Phil, also a UW-Madison alumnus, who passed away in 2021.

“Our family deeply appreciates the vital role engineering plays in driving innovations that advance our society and contribute to people’s quality and enjoyment of life,” said Marv. “Jeff and I view support of this new engineering building as a gift to the state of Wisconsin.”

The university said the eight story, 395,000 square-foot Phillip A. Levy Engineering Center will add safe, modern and flexible spaces to allow the College of Engineering to expand its enrollment and foster collaboration among academia, industry and government.

“We aren’t engineers,” said Jeff, “but we are engineering a great campus.”

The $75 million gift places the college halfway to its goal of $175 million. An additional $197 million in funding for the building will come from the state of Wisconsin, totaling $347 million.
