The 1971 Ford Mustang marked the end of the first generation’s production run. Despite the discontinuation of the iconic Boss and Shelby models, Ford offered several high-performance options to keep enthusiasts excited.

One was the Boss 351, which featured a powerful 351-cubic-inch Cleveland V8 engine. While the Boss 429 was no longer available, its legacy lived on in the Cobra Jet, which was now powered by a 429-cubic-inch engine.

However, the 429 Cobra Jet, particularly the convertible version, was a rare find, with only a few hundred examples produced. This specific red on red convertible is even rarer, as it is one of the few non-Mach 1 Cobra Jets without the Ram Air package.

The combination of the powerful 429 cubic inch engine, the convertible body style, and the lack of the Ram Air package made this particular Mustang a highly sought-after collectible.

Its rarity and performance potential have made it a prized possession for many muscle car enthusiasts. The red on red color scheme further enhances its appeal, as it is a classic combination that has been popular for decades.

This distinctive Mustang Cobra Jet convertible, a rare gem in its own right, is even more exclusive due to its red-on-red color scheme and white top. One of only 32 Ram Air Cobra Jet convertibles ever produced, and one of just 23 with an automatic transmission, this car’s rarity is undeniable.

Originally ordered by Ford’s Marketing Department for auto show appearances, it’s a well equipped vehicle with a power top, tilting steering wheel, AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. Ironically, despite being a later model, it lacks power windows, a feature introduced in 1971. Now part of a larger Mustang collection, this beautifully preserved Cobra Jet is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic muscle cars.

Its distinctive color combination, coupled with its powerful Ram Air engine and rare convertible body style, make it a highly sought-after collectible. The car’s history as a marketing vehicle adds an extra layer of intrigue, making it not only a stunning example of automotive engineering but also a piece of automotive history.
