“This is just what it is. We’re just going to be in the same space,” Christine said
The last thing Christine Brown, her ex-husband Kody Brown and his current (and only remaining) wife Robyn Brown want is to come face-to-face with one another after Christine and Kody’s big breakup that shook up their entire blended family. However, for the sake of the exes’ daughter Mykelti Padron (née Brown) and her husband Antonio “Tony” Padron, they are willing to put their differences aside.
During the season 19 premiere of Sister Wives,Christine, 52, helped put on a “Vegas-style” baby sprinkle for Mykelti, 28, to celebrate her as she’s expecting twins. There are “a lot of people coming” to the gathering, said Christine, noting that Janelle Brown was “definitely” invited but won’t be able to attend.
And while Meri Brown didn’t make the cut, Kody, 55, and Robyn, 45, did due to their close bond with Mykelti.
“I will do anything for Mykelti, and Mykelti wants Kody and Robyn at her sprinkle,” Christine told the cameras. “So, of course, they can come to the sprinkle.”
From there, Christine candidly admits: “I am a little nervous about seeing them. I am nervous.”
“I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ll be seeing them after I left,” she continued. “I mean, Cody was furious the last time that he spoke to me, and we haven’t talked since.”
Similarly, Kody was also “very excited” to celebrate his daughter and son-in-law. And yet, Kody and Robyn are both “terribly nervous” to see Christine “mostly because, well, I haven’t seen Christine in months.”
“I can’t fake this off,” Kody continued. “Seeing her, there’s so much animosity. It’s all something that embarrasses me because I think it’s all very childish.”
Adding to that, Robyn told the cameras separately, “I’m a little nervous going to this baby shower. The last time I saw Christine was when she told us that she didn’t want a relationship with me and my kids.”
Given the baby sprinkle’s gambling theme, Christine joked that the partygoers could “take our bets” on “whether or not we’re actually all going to get along in the same place.”
From the moment Kody and Robyn arrived at the party until they eventually left, the couple managed to keep their distance from Christine. “I can’t speak for Kody and Christine, but I kept my distance and did not greet Christine because she told me she didn’t want a relationship and I don’t want to push myself on her,” Robyn said. “I want to have any relationship that I can have, but it takes two.”
Christine said she “noticed” that Kody and Robyn stayed away from her. “I’m not going to necessarily say hi,” Christine said, noting how “that would be disingenuous.”
“That would mean I was going to be friends and friendly, and I’m not,” she added. “I’m not going to be friendly.”
Christine soon realized something crucial about Kody and Robyn’s presence at the baby sprinkle. “Seeing Kody and Robyn at the party, I realized all of a sudden that this was more awkward for them. They’re outsiders here, not me,” she said.
“I just don’t want to talk to her,” Kody said separately. “I don’t want to see her. She doesn’t want to see me, I’m sure, either.”
Reflecting on the “dark place” he’s been in — especially as his separations from Meri and Janelle came not longer after Christine left him — Kody said he believes Christine is “in a good place because she’s moved out” and “moved on.” However, he admitted to the cameras: “Robyn and I are really kind of in a struggling place.”
“We’re probably doing the worst we’ve ever done in our marriage. It’s been tough. It’s been tough between us,” Robyn shared in a confessional. “He doesn’t know who to blame, himself or one of the other wives. Kody’s feeling a lot of rejection. I think he’s kind of looking at me going, ‘Are you going to reject me too?’ So, I’m on my toes. I’m having to consistently make sure that he is not sabotaging our relationship.”
Looking to the future, Christine is aware that she can’t avoid Kody and Robyn forever, noting that the trio being in the same space sometimes “is just going to happen.”
“And for sure, Robyn’s going to be at the birth of the twins too,” she added. “This is just what it is. We’re just going to be in the same space.”
