“Arrow” alum Stephen Amell has been tapped to lead the L.A.-based legal drama.
Suits: L.A. officially has the Jessica Pearson stamp of approval.
While walking the red carpet for Sunday’s 2024 Emmy Awards, Gina Torres not only offered her thoughts on the recent Suits resurgence, but on the news that the legal drama is getting a brand new spinoff set in Los Angeles.
“It’s L.A., I think it’s fantastic,” Torres told Entertainment Weekly‘s Patrick Gomez and PEOPLE’s Janine Rubenstein. “I hope they have a successful and as long a run as we did.”
Reflecting on the flagship series, which ran for nine seasons and spawned the Torres-led spinoff, Pearson, she said, “It was incredible to be a part of that show. It’s even more amazing that it’s found another pair of legs and that people are running with it. There are just great actors, great stories, great storylines, as everybody knows, so yeah, it’s just great.”
Suits, which aired from 2011 to 2019, also starred Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, and Sarah Rafferty.
During her tenure in the franchise, Torres also starred opposite D.B. Woodside, who she has reunited with for 9-1-1: Lone Star.
“I love him,” Torres said during her red carpet chat. “It’s really that simple. He is a thoughtful and generous actor, he is a thoughtful and generous human being, We get each other. We show up and we play. And we trust each other implicitly as well, so that makes for a great partnership onscreen.”

EW confirmed in February that former Arrow star Stephen Amell had been tapped to lead the Suits spinoff, Suits: LA., which will see him trade green leather for formal suits as Ted Black, a “charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others.”
The series, being written and produced for NBC by Suits creator Aaron Korsh, will follow Ted, a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself after teaming up with his old friend, Stuart Lane, to build a law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law. Together they represent the most powerful clients in Los Angeles.

As indicated by Torres, Suits recently enjoyed newfound popularity thanks to streaming. After arriving on Netflix and Peacock, the drama unexpectedly broke streaming records throughout 2023, and topped Nielsen’s streaming charts for months on end. The spinoff was announced on the heels of the resurgence, which also led to a renewed interest in the idea of a Suits reunion.
In June, the OG cast came together for a panel for the ATX Television Festival, where Adams teased the possibility of a reunion movie.
“Obviously there’s the Suits: LA show that is being made, that is the focus of Aaron, I think he would agree,” Adams said of the series creator. “But it’s definitely something he’s interested in doing, trying to get the band back together. It’s going to depend on a million things if that can happen, but is it possible? I think it is possible.”
