MERIDEN, CT — A popular Italian restaurant is closing in Meriden at the end of October, the owners recently announced.
Avanti Restaurant, located at 34 River Road, is closing after 17 years due to the building being sold, the owners wrote in a post on Facebook.
“It is with great sadness we announce that we will be closing our doors on October 31st 2024 due to the sale of the building,” the post reads. “We have loved serving you over the last 17 years and thank you for your continued support and dedication. ❤️
“Please redeem all gift certificates by October 31st 2024.

The restaurant’s fans were saddened by the news.
“Absolutely heartbreaking!!” one person wrote. “This is our very favorite, has been for so long and I don’t know how we will fare without you!!
“We wish you all the best and we will hope for a new endeavor that we can come to!!
“Thanks for everything, you have all always gone above and beyond! Especially during Covid, your ingenious ways of take away as well as restaurant adaptations were wonderful and very much appreciated.”
Another person wrote, “Our hearts are broken. We love Avanti and the staff. We will follow you wherever you go.”
