A San Angelo man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 34-year old before barricading on Saturday, according to a news release.

Ricardo Rico, 48, was being held Monday in the Tom Green County Jail on a $50,000 bond for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Around 4:47 p.m. Saturday, San Angelo police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Howard Street in response to a reported stabbing.

A San Angelo man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 34 year old Saturday, according to a news release.

Officers discovered a 34-year-old man who had sustained stab wounds.

“The victim was promptly transported to an area hospital by the San Angelo Fire Department for medical treatment,” according to the release.

The suspect was identified as Rico.

“(Rico) was located at the scene but quickly barricaded himself in a small shed,” the release stated. “He refused to comply with officers’ commands to surrender and remained inside the shed.”

The critical-incident commander activated the department’s critical incident teams, including SWAT, crisis negotiation and drone units, to manage the incident. An arrest warrant was subsequently sought for Rico.

“After the arrest warrant was issued and after he continued to refused to surrender the SWAT Team deployed a limited amount of chemical munitions,” the release stated. “After this deployment Rico surrendered to the San Angelo Police Department’s SWAT Team and was taken into custody without further incident.”

The victim was said to be recovering, according to Chief Travis Griffith.

“The investigation is still ongoing at this time, and there is currently no further information to release,” the release stated.
