A Cape Coral man faces DUI charges after authorities say he caused a three-vehicle crash that involved a rollover where he nearly quadrupled the blood-alcohol limit and caused nearly $24,000 in damage.

Korey Dickens, 34, faces one count of DUI and two counts of DUI with damage to property or another person.

According to Cape Coral police, it all began around 2 a.m. Monday, when officers responded to a rollover crash at the 2200 block of Del Prado Boulevard South.

Police said officers found a red Mercedes on its roof, heavily damaged. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Dickens, had minor lacerations.

Authorities said Dickens was wearing a blue work shirt and black pants with no shoes or socks.

Police said a gray Nissan was also damaged in the crash. The driver and passenger of that vehicle told officers they were leaving a nearby BP gas station, 2231 Del Prado Blvd. S., when Dickens’ red Mercedes struck their car.

A third vehicle, a black Jaguar, was also heavily damaged in the crash, police said.

Police said their investigation determined Dickens was at fault for the crash and added that while officers spoke with Dickens, they noticed multiple signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

That’s when police say officers told Dickens they were doing a criminal DUI investigation.

Police said Dickens’ blood-alcohol level was .335 when it was taken at a local hospital just after 4 a.m. In Florida, the legal limit is 0.08.

During an inventory of Dickens’ red Mercedes, police said, officers found 10 mini bottles of Smirnoff Vodka — two of them and 8 unopened mini bottles of Smirnoff Vodka.

Police said Dickens caused an estimated $13,000 in damage to the gray Nissan and $11,000 in damage to the black Jaguar.

Dickens was released Tuesday on $1,500 bond and is next due in court Oct. 7 for his arraignment.
