Rivian, the electric vehicle startup, has been making waves in the automotive market. While their recent announcement of supply chain issues raised concerns, the company is determined to overcome these hurdles with strategic discounts and a focus on product quality. However, amidst these efforts, rumors of potential changes to their popular Family & Friends discounts have led to uncertainty for potential buyers.
The R1T pickup and R1S SUV offer a premium experience with a starting price of $69,900 and $77,900, respectively. While the R1S recently saw a price reduction, Rivian’s battery options remain a discussion point. The Max Pack, now known as Large+, offers the largest battery capacity but limits usage to approximately 110 kWh.
This software limited approach aims to protect battery longevity by preventing full charging, but it also comes with an increased weight and higher price tag. Despite these considerations, the R1T and R1S offer a compelling package with ample features and performance. While they may lack Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, they compensate with premium amenities and a powerful electric drivetrain.
The base models, equipped with LFP batteries, deliver a range of 270 miles and 258 miles with 22-inch and 20-inch wheels, respectively. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of around 4.5 seconds, these EVs provide a thrilling driving experience. Rivian has expanded its Friends & Family discount to include Gen 2 electric vehicles.
This means that new orders for the R1T and R1S will receive a price reduction of $2,500 (CAD 3,500). While there’s a possibility that existing, uncompleted orders might also qualify for the discount, this is not guaranteed. To take advantage of this offer, you’ll need an employee referral code.
If you don’t have a personal connection to Rivian employees, you can find these codes on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit. Keep in mind that you must take delivery of your vehicle before September 30 to benefit from this discount, and it applies to all types of purchases, including cash buys, financing, and lease agreements.
The Friends & Family discount can also be combined with Rivian’s referral program, which offers both the buyer and the referrer $750 in credits and six months of free fast-charging.
If you’re not interested in the Gen 2 models, Rivian is offering a $6,000 (CAD 9,000) voucher for a Gen 1 vehicle. Additionally, they’ve recently launched an official used Rivian shop with a seven-day return policy.
