Lincoln’s Sedan Revival Imagined with Striking New Continental and Mark IX Concepts

The question of whether Lincoln will ever return to producing passenger cars, rather than solely SUVs, continues to be a popular topic of discussion in the American automotive industry. While it’s clear that Ford Motor Company has largely abandoned passenger cars in North America, with the Mustang being the sole exception, it’s unfortunate to see Lincoln follow suit.

As a premium brand, Lincoln’s focus on crossovers and SUVs seems counterintuitive. In contrast, Cadillac maintains a diverse lineup, including both compact and large sedans, as well as the exclusive Celestiq flagship. The digital world of automotive design has been filled with imaginative concepts for Lincoln passenger cars, highlighting the potential for the brand to revive its storied nameplates.

One such project comes from Vince Burlapp, a virtual artist known for his creative designs and passion for American premium brands. Burlapp’s vision for a new Lincoln Continental is particularly striking, combining modern design elements with classic Continental cues. The concept features a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette, elegant lines, and a luxurious interior. While the design is purely hypothetical, it serves as a reminder of the potential for Lincoln to return to its roots and offer a more diverse range of vehicles.

In addition to the Continental, other artists have proposed designs for a new Lincoln Town Car and a smaller, more affordable sedan. These concepts demonstrate the creativity and enthusiasm of the automotive community for Lincoln’s return to the passenger car market. While it remains to be seen whether Lincoln will ever actually produce a new passenger car, the abundance of imaginative designs suggests that there is a strong demand for such vehicles.

After exploring the possibilities of a GMC Canyon EV and a new Cadillac lineup, a digital artist has turned his attention back to Lincoln, a brand that has struggled to find its identity in recent years. Building on his previous concept of a Lincoln Continental sedan, he’s now imagined a revival of the iconic Mark series with a stunning two-door coupe, the Lincoln Mark IX. This luxurious coupe would not only pay homage to a storied American automotive legacy but also complement the Continental in the Lincoln lineup.

The Mark IX would be a bold statement, harkening back to the days when Lincoln defined American luxury. With its sleek lines, powerful engine, and opulent interior, it would stand out in a crowded market. However, given Ford’s recent scaling back of EV plans and Lincoln’s struggles to define its identity, it’s unlikely that such a vehicle would ever make it to production.

This missed opportunity could further cement Lincoln’s position behind other luxury brands, both within Ford and in the broader market. While the company has made strides in recent years, it still faces significant challenges. The Mark IX would have been a bold step forward, but it seems that the time is not right for such a vehicle.
