A Californian startup, a pioneer in the US market for light electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has achieved a remarkable milestone. With over 1,000 human piloted flights, this company has set a new industry standard.

The flights, conducted by both the Pivotal team and early access program customers, represent a groundbreaking achievement in the field of light electric aircraft. The company’s pre production aircraft, the BlackFly, gained immense popularity for its accessibility to non professional pilots.

Through an early access program, a select group of owners gained firsthand experience with the aircraft. Their valuable feedback played a crucial role in refining the design and transitioning to the production version, the Helix.

The achievement of 1,117 piloted light eVTOL flights is a testament to the company’s commitment and the growing enthusiasm for this innovative technology. The positive experiences of early adopters have inspired their friends and relatives to learn to pilot the BlackFly, further fueling the momentum and propelling the future of light eVTOL aviation.

Pivotal’s EAP program, which provided early access to their electric aircraft, Helix, has ended now that the aircraft is available for purchase. The Helix, manufactured in Palo Alto, California, is classified as an ultralight under FAA Part 103, meaning it doesn’t require a pilot license to fly in the US.

However, owners must follow specific rules, such as flying only in uncongested areas and completing required flight training. Customers can order the Helix online for a $250 non refundable application fee and a $50,000 deposit. The most expensive package includes a premium flight deck, three chargers, beacon aircraft lighting, an extra training slot for a companion, and optional customization.

This luxury package starts at $260,000. Pivotal’s single-seat electric aircraft is likely the most affordable and safest option for those in America who dream of owning a zero emission aircraft.
