In 1958, Chevrolet started on a bold initiative to revitalize its full size car offerings. This ambitious plan involved a comprehensive redesign and the introduction of a highly anticipated new model. The redesigned full size Chevys, crafted under the visionary leadership of designer Bill Mitchell, were larger, lower, and wider than their predecessors.

This striking aesthetic transformation proved to be a resounding success, propelling Chevrolet to the top of the American automotive market with over 1.2 million units sold that year. Alongside this redesign, Chevrolet revealed the Impala, a stunning new model that had initially fascinated audiences as a concept car in 1956.

Positioned as the pinnacle of Chevrolet’s full-size lineup, the Impala quickly became a customer favorite, offering an irresistible combination of style, performance, and luxury. Joining the ranks of Bel Air, Biscayne, and Del Air, the Impala played a pivotal role in Chevrolet’s dominance of the American automotive market for the next decade.

The year 1958 marked a significant transformation for Chevrolet’s full size car lineup. The iconic Impala, a centerpiece of this redesign, emerged with a sleek, elongated silhouette that set it apart from its predecessors. While the provided images offer a look into this stunning vehicle’s exterior, they leave much to be desired in terms of interior details and engine specifications.

The owner’s assurance of a “beautiful” interior is undoubtedly credible, given the Impala’s striking exterior. However, the question of whether this car has undergone a restoration remains unanswered. An original, unrestored 1958 Impala is a highly coveted collectible, but a well executed restoration can also make for a desirable driving experience. The flawless paintwork suggests a possible repaint, but a closer inspection would be necessary to confirm.

The engine’s performance is another area shrouded in mystery. The Impala could be equipped with a base 235ci six-cylinder engine or a more powerful 283ci V8. Additionally, various configurations of the 283 engine were available, offering different horsepower outputs. A powerful 348ci big-block engine was also an option but came with a premium price tag.

Despite the Impala’s apparent pristine condition, a thorough inspection is essential to ensure its quality. Checking the undercarriage for rust and evaluating the engine’s condition are crucial steps in determining the car’s health. The odometer reading of 45,000 miles raises questions about its authenticity and may require further verification.

The owner’s asking price of $48,000 is reasonable, but it’s contingent upon the car’s actual condition. While the Impala appears to be a high quality restoration, a personal inspection is necessary to assess its true value.
