Japan Exchange Group, Inc. will continue to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality in Japan through the operation of the Carbon Credit Market.
Comments by RYUZAKI Takatsugu, Director-General, GX Policy Group, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
I would like to congratulate TSE on the first anniversary of the opening of the Carbon Credit Market.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been working on the development of an emissions trading system and the revitalization of trading in J-credits, and we are very pleased that many companies and organizations have been trading since the market was launched.
In order to expand GX investment towards the realization of carbon neutrality in 2050, it is essential to have a mechanism for trading environmental values and make the carbon price visible. We wish TSE Carbon Credit Market continued development as an infrastructure for this purpose.
Comments by IWANAGA Moriyuki, President and CEO, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc.
Today, our Carbon Credit Market celebrates its first anniversary. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all market participants for their great cooperation in the operation of the market.
In November this year, as part of the first phase (Trial Phase) of the GX-ETS, we will start trading “GX Credits” on our market, and from 2026 onwards, as the GX-ETS enters its second phase (full-scale operation), we believe that the importance of the carbon price discovery function in our market will increase and the market will attract more attention.
We will continue to work closely with the METI and other stakeholders and contribute to the efforts towards “Pro-Growth Carbon Pricing Concept”.
