The automotive world is abuzz with news of the BMW Group’s recent design shake up. The company’s corporate styling guru, Domagoj Dukec, is moving to Rolls-Royce, leaving a void that will be filled by two new designers under the guidance of Adrian van Hooydonk.
Maximilian Missoni, formerly of Polestar, will take charge of larger models and Alpina, while Oliver Heilmer, the design boss at Mini, will oversee smaller models. This change is expected to usher in a new era for BMW, one that is less controversial and focuses more on performance than quirky styling.
In the meantime, digital car content creators have been busy envisioning what the future of BMW might look like. One such creator, Andrew Designs, has shared his unofficial, hypothetical design for the next installment in the BMW M3 series.
This design returns the M3 to its coupe roots and pays homage to the classic E30 while also looking completely futuristic. Andrew’s design is a bold departure from the more rounded, modern styling of recent BMW models. The car features sharp lines, aggressive angles, and a muscular stance. The front end is dominated by a large, aggressive grille that is flanked by two narrow headlights.
The side profile is characterized by a long hood, a pronounced wheel arch, and a flowing roofline. The rear end is highlighted by a large spoiler, a diffuser, and quad tailpipes. The interior of the car is equally impressive. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, with high-quality materials and a modern design.
The driver is greeted by a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment screen. The seats are supportive and comfortable, and there is plenty of legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. It is unclear whether BMW will ever adopt Andrew’s design for the next M3. However, it is a fascinating look into what the future of the iconic sports car could look like.
The BMW’s unconventional design is a refreshing take on the concept of wackiness. Its horizontal kidney grille, along with its exaggerated aerodynamic kit, creates a striking and unique appearance.
