Despite a slight decline in September sales, Subaru of America continued its streak of year over year sales growth for the 26th consecutive month. The Japanese automaker delivered 56,414 vehicles in September, up just 0.1% compared to the previous month.

However, with year to date deliveries reaching nearly 494,000 units, Subaru remains on track for a successful year. Crossovers once again led the way for Subaru, with the Crosstrek, Outback, and Forester claiming the top three spots in September sales. While the larger Ascent saw a decline, most other crossover models posted positive results.

In contrast, passenger cars struggled. The mid size Legacy sedan experienced a significant drop of 25.4% to just 19,622 units. This downturn led Subaru to make the difficult decision to discontinue the Legacy model, joining Chevrolet’s Malibu in the automotive graveyard.

The Subaru Legacy, a beloved sedan known for its reliability and performance, could see a resurgence with a subtle yet striking update.

The host and resident pixel master of a popular automotive channel have proposed a hypothetical design that maintains the current model’s essence while adding a touch of modern flair.

By incorporating hidden rear door handles, the sedan would take on a more coupe like silhouette, appealing to those seeking a stylish yet practical vehicle.

The question remains: Would these minor tweaks be enough to reignite interest in the Legacy, especially in a market where mid size sedans like the Chevrolet Malibu are declining in popularity? The Toyota Camry’s continued dominance, with sales exceeding 1,000 units per day, poses a significant challenge.

However, the 2025 Subaru Legacy offers a compelling proposition with its starting price of $24,895 and various trim levels catering to different preferences. The top of the line Touring XT, priced at $38,195, boasts a powerful turbocharged engine and all wheel drive system, making it a tempting choice for enthusiasts.
