TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Parks in the City of Tuscaloosa are in overdrive when it comes to renovations as the city has invested millions of dollars in upgrades.

If it seems like there’s been one ribbon cutting after another at Tuscaloosa-area parks that’s because several parks have reopened after being closed.

Kaulton Park on the city’s west side and Snow Hinton Park on McFarland Boulevard just reopened.

That’s after being closed for several months in Kaulton’s case, and nearly a year when it comes to Snow Hinton.

The city spent almost $2.5 million upgrading Kaulton Park.

“It’s just completely different from when I lived over this way. And it’s just amazing,” expressed Rose Burns, a Tuscaloosa resident who likes the improvements made to Kaulton Park. “I think it does a lot for the neighborhood. And it’s beautiful.”

The city put $10 million of improvements toward Snow Hinton Park.

Security cameras, new restrooms, new pavilion, and more lighting have been added to both parks.

Snow Hinton Park has a new ellipse, and a new walking track and expanded parking.

“I think the message is that parks are an essential part of the community’s DNA, and that we must continue to make these investments because people, especially these days, they want to be outside,” Mayor Walt Maddox said.

Snow Hinton Park hosts the Kentuck Festival of the Arts this upcoming weekend.
