The 2025 BMW 2-series Gran Coupe, entering its second generation, seeks to improve upon the mixed reception of its predecessor, which debuted for the 2020 model year. The original model’s bulbous shape and front-wheel-drive configuration received criticism, and its pricing made it less appealing compared to the rear-wheel-drive 2-series coupe and the more spacious X1 crossover. While the new Gran Coupe still faces a pricing challenge, it boasts a more attractive design, which is a significant step forward.

In terms of aesthetics, the 2025 2-series Gran Coupe aligns more closely with BMW’s larger models, particularly the redesigned 5-series. While the current BMW lineup features a variety of designs, the new Gran Coupe retains certain elements from its predecessor while enhancing its overall look. The vehicle is slightly longer, and taller, and maintains the same wheelbase, ensuring a familiar size.

The standard M Sport appearance package, featuring black exterior trim and large air intakes below the kidney grille, adds to its sporty look. The option for an illuminated grille will be available later, further enhancing its modern appeal.

Engine-wise, the 2-series Gran Coupe has undergone significant updates. The revised turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is now more powerful and fuel-efficient, with the 228 model increasing from 228 to 241 horsepower and 258 to 295 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the M235 model sees a horsepower boost from 301 to 312 but a decrease in torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission replaces the previous eight-speed automatic, promising a more responsive driving experience.

The 2025 model also benefits from a redesigned chassis, which enhances responsiveness and improves ride quality. The updated suspension features a stiffer body structure and standard adaptive dampers, while the braking system has been overhauled to include larger rotors and upgraded calipers for better performance. These changes aim to deliver a more engaging driving experience that aligns with BMW’s sporty reputation.

Inside, the new Gran Coupe adopts a modern design with a large screen that merges a digital gauge cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. Equipped with the latest iDrive 9 software, the 2-series Gran Coupe includes features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and advanced driver-assistance technologies.

The vehicle is set to launch in March 2025, with all-wheel-drive versions of the 228 and M235 starting at $42,775 and $50,675, respectively, while a more affordable front-wheel-drive version will be introduced later in 2025.
