Subaru New Zealand has revealed a limited edition WRX, the Todoroki, to commemorate 30 years of World Rally eXperimental. This special edition, of which only 10 examples will be available, is set to arrive in the country next month.
While the announcement might seem confusing given that Subaru launched the Impreza WRX in 1992, it’s important to note that the Todoroki is a unique take on the modern WRX, inspired by the legendary Subaru Tecnica International (STI) models of the past.
Unfortunately, Subaru has confirmed that there will be no STI version of the VB-series WRX. This is a disappointment for many fans who have come to expect the high-performance STI variant from every new generation of WRX.
The company has stated that the STI will not be developed on the current WRX platform, which is a bit of a departure from the trend of using the Subaru Global Platform for most of its combustion-engined models.
