Malcolm Forbes, a man of extraordinary wealth and indulgence, was known for his lavish lifestyle. From opulent mansions and private jets to a fleet of exotic cars, Forbes spared no expense in satisfying his desires.

Among his impressive collection was a 1989 Aston Martin Lagonda, a four door sedan that stood out in an era dominated by the brand’s sports cars. Even after the car’s odometer reached its limit, Forbes remained so fond of it that he had it replaced under warranty.

Beyond his automotive passions, Forbes’s interests extended to motorcycles, founding the Capitalist Tools motorcycle club and gifting Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor a Harley Davidson.

His love for adventure also led him to explore the world on his 151 foot yacht, the Highlander, and at his luxurious properties in France and Morocco. With his vast fortune and eclectic tastes, Forbes was a true icon of opulence and excess. Despite its reliability issues and high price tag, the Aston Martin Lagonda was a symbol of futuristic luxury in the late 1980s.

With groundbreaking technology and a sleek, aerodynamic design, it stood out among its contemporaries. Although it may seem outdated today, it was once considered one of the most innovative sedans on the market. Manufactured in limited numbers, the Lagonda was a rare and coveted vehicle.

Only 105 units were produced in 1989, with a mere 11 of those making their way to the United States. One such car belonged to Malcolm Forbes, the renowned publisher and entrepreneur. Forbes’ Lagonda was a testament to his discerning taste and appreciation for automotive excellence.

The car featured a striking black exterior, a luxurious leather interior with red piping, and a host of advanced features for its time, including a Panasonic phone, a Sony AM/FM radio, and a cassette player. Unfortunately, Forbes’ ownership of the Lagonda was not without its challenges.

The car’s odometer failed at relatively low mileage, and the original tires and paint job have endured the test of time. Despite these minor imperfections, the Lagonda remains a remarkable example of automotive engineering and a cherished piece of automotive history.
