The Mazda BT-50, a mid-size pickup truck, has been receiving more attention in Australia than in North America. While MNAO appears uninterested in offering the BT-50 with updates like the CX-90’s engine or plug in powertrain, the Australian market has seen significant improvements to the model in recent years.

The 2024 model year introduced subtle enhancements and a starting price of $24k, making it a more attractive option for Australian buyers.

However, those considering purchasing the BT-50 in Australia might want to wait for the 2025 model year, which is expected to feature substantial design changes, safety upgrades, added functionality, and new accessories.

This upcoming update marks the fourth significant change to the BT-50 since its launch in 2020 and is expected to include features like new LED headlamps, a redesigned radiator grille and front bumper, and a restyled tailgate with LED rear lights.

In addition to these visual enhancements, the 2025 BT-50 is expected to receive updates to its safety features. This could include advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring. The truck’s off-road capabilities are also likely to be improved with enhancements to its suspension, tires, and all-wheel drive system.

Given the significant changes expected in the 2025 model year, it may be worthwhile for potential buyers to wait a few months before making a purchase. The additional features and improvements offered by the 2025 BT-50 could make it a more attractive and versatile option for Australian drivers.

The Mazda BT-50 receives a subtle update for the new year, featuring minor exterior tweaks and a more significant interior overhaul. While the exterior remains largely unchanged, save for new alloy wheel designs, the interior has been treated to a modern makeover.

A new infotainment system with a central touchscreen and touch controls takes center stage, complemented by a digital instrument cluster and wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Material updates include new leather and fabric options, and the range of advanced driver assistance systems has been expanded to include features like Traffic Jam Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Brake.

The updated BT-50’s interior is now more refined and technologically advanced than its predecessor. The new infotainment system offers a more intuitive user experience and a wider range of features, while the digital instrument cluster provides drivers with essential information at a glance.

The addition of wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures that drivers can stay connected to their smartphones on the go. In terms of safety, the updated BT-50 benefits from a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that help to prevent accidents and protect occupants.

Traffic Jam Assist helps to maintain a safe following distance in slow-moving traffic, while Rear Cross Traffic Brake alerts drivers to potential hazards when reversing. The BT-50’s new AEB system now includes motorcycle and pedestrian detection, and Emergency Lane Keeping can even see road edges without lane markings.

The updated Mazda BT-50 is a more refined and technologically advanced vehicle than its predecessor. Its subtle exterior updates and significant interior improvements make it a compelling choice for buyers in the mid-size pickup truck segment.
