Lancia Gamma Returns in 2026 as an All-Electric Flagship with Advanced Technology

The Lancia Gamma, a name synonymous with elegance and innovation, is set to make a triumphant return in 2026. This time, it will be an all electric flagship sedan built on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform.

This platform, designed for a range of vehicles from compact crossovers to large sedans, will provide the Gamma with a powerful electric powertrain and advanced technology.

While the specifics of the Gamma’s electric range remain to be seen, it’s expected to offer a substantial driving range, leveraging the platform’s potential for efficient energy use. The new Gamma will also feature a striking design, with a sleek fastback silhouette and a distinctive rear light signature.

However, the choice of a Maserati-inspired typeface for the Gamma badge has raised some eyebrows. While it may be an elegant font, it lacks the originality one might expect from a brand with such a rich heritage.

The STLA Medium platform, while versatile, might not be the ideal foundation for a truly high-performance Lancia flagship. While its electric power output ranges from 160 to 285 kilowatts, offering respectable performance, it may not be sufficient for a top-tier model.

A potential solution could involve a hybridized setup, combining a high output GME-T4 EVO engine with an electrified rear axle. However, given Lancia’s commitment to electrification, a fully electric powertrain seems more likely.

The upcoming Gamma and Delta models, slated for a 2028 launch, will be exclusively electric. While the Gamma is confirmed as a flagship sedan, the Delta’s body style remains uncertain, potentially taking the form of either a hatchback or a crossover.

Both models will be manufactured at the Melfi plant in Italy, catering to European markets. For North America, the Jeep Compass will continue to be produced at the Brampton plant in Canada.

Lancia’s return to the European market is a significant step, but the success of the Gamma and Delta will be crucial. A misstep could potentially jeopardize the brand’s future, forcing Stellantis to consider drastic measures.
