One of the rarest and most iconic automobiles ever produced, the 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, recently commanded a staggering $9,335,000 at a RM Sotheby’s auction. This particular Gullwing, chassis number 198.043.5500872, is one of only 29 ever built with an aluminum body, making it an extremely desirable collector’s item.

Originally owned by legendary Ferrari importer and Le Mans champion Luigi Chinetti, the car remained in his possession for 20 years before being sold to Rudi Klein. Since then, it has remained largely untouched, preserving its original interior, matching-numbers engine, transmission, and steering box.
