Early electric vehicles (EVs) sparked safety concerns. While they shared similar cabin structures and safety equipment to traditional gasoline powered cars, several factors caused unease. The lack of a bulky engine up front, a common feature in gasoline vehicles, raised questions about passenger protection in collisions.

Additionally, the placement of battery packs along the car’s undercarriage worried some about potential fire hazards. Finally, the emergence of new EV manufacturers, compared to established car companies, added to the uncertainty.

Ensuring car safety is a top priority for government agencies like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Their New Car Assessment program continuously evolves to keep pace with car advancements.

This rigorous testing recently put the Lucid Air through its paces, and all versions (Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, and Sapphire) aced the frontal, side, and rollover crash tests, earning a perfect five-star safety rating.

This achievement reflects not only the Lucid Air’s comprehensive safety features but also its strong construction. The car utilizes high strength, lightweight aluminum, and a specially designed battery pack that contributes to its structural integrity.

While the price tag might be steeper, the Lucid Air prioritizes safety alongside its impressive performance (Pure: 419 miles range, 430 hp; Touring: 620 hp, 411 miles range).
