The story behind a custom motorcycle can often be as fascinating as the machine itself. Such is the case with this stunning Yamaha XV750 Virago, transformed by Rhode Island’s Cafe Cycles. Founded in 2008 by Peter Chase, a seasoned engineer with a passion for motorcycles and a knack for metalwork, Cafe Cycles has quickly established itself as a force in the custom motorcycle scene.

This particular project, commissioned by a sailing enthusiast, took an unexpected turn due to the global pandemic, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the build. With the client stranded at sea and the world in lockdown, Peter faced the challenge of sourcing parts and transforming the dilapidated Virago into a sleek and modern custom motorcycle.

The result is a testament to his skill and perseverance, a bike that blends classic V-twin charm with contemporary style. This stunning Yamaha XV750 cafe racer, a masterpiece crafted by Cafe Cycles, boasts a striking transformation from its former state. The bike’s front end has been completely overhauled with premium Yamaha R6 upside-down forks and high-performance brakes.

The rear end is equally impressive, featuring a custom-made piggyback shock absorber and a sleek, low-slung profile. The stock rear hoop remains, but it’s now clad in grippy Pirelli Angel GT II tires. A custom license plate bracket and a swingarm-mounted fender complete the rear end’s minimalist aesthetic.

The bike’s cockpit is a work of art, featuring clip-on handlebars wrapped in brown leather and billet aluminum rearsets. Motogadget components, including bar end turn signals, underslung mirrors, and compact switches, add a touch of modern elegance. The twin ChronoClassic gauges provide essential information, while a state of the art Motodemic headlight illuminates the road ahead.

The Yamaha’s V-twin engine has been fully rebuilt and tuned for performance. A custom intake with K&N air filters feeds the engine, while a unique exhaust system with heat-wrapped headers and reverse megaphone mufflers delivers a powerful and distinctive sound.

The engine’s raw power is complemented by a stunning black and grey paint job with gold accents, applied by DGB Paintworks. This remarkable cafe racer is a testament to the skill and creativity of its builder, Peter Chase. Despite the challenges faced during the restoration process, Chase has meticulously crafted a bike that is both visually stunning and mechanically impressive.
