Classic BMW R motorcycles are popular for custom builders due to their affordability and legendary reliability. This versatility is evident in the vast array of R-based projects, from cafe racers to bobbers and scramblers. Some workshops specialize exclusively in these air-cooled beauties, while others keep revisiting the platform for its endless potential.

This stunning custom scrambler is the brainchild of Seba Achaval, owner of OneYedeer in Brooklyn. A client named Alex entrusted Seba with his 1984 R80 RT, requesting a transformation that included passenger capacity and a monoshock conversion. The rest, however, was left to Seba’s creative vision.

With the donor bike prepped, Seba began sourcing a collection of aftermarket parts to bring Alex’s dream scrambler to life. Seba didn’t just buy parts for his BMW R80 scrambler project, he hunted them down.

A single-sided swingarm and wheels with Y-spokes arrived from Re-Psycle BMW Parts, while a cool seat and subframe combo made the journey across the Atlantic from Germany.

But the first snag hit when the swingarm, supposedly a bolt-on kit, needed modifications to fit. Undeterred, Seba tackled the challenge and made it work. The subframe, a looped tubular design with built-in LED lighting, arrived next.

It cradled a comfy two-seater bench and a custom high fender. An adjustable Ikon shock absorber on the right bridged the gap between the subframe and the swingarm, while a swingarm-mounted license plate bracket completed the tail end.
