    U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 1.11% By Investing.com

    Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

    At the close in London, the added 1.11%.

    The best performers of the session on the were Fresnillo PLC (LON:), which rose 4.51% or 28.00 points to trade at 649.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:) added 3.68% or 13.80 points to end at 389.30 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:) was up 3.48% or 19.80 points to 588.40 in late trade.

    The worst performers of the session were B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:), which fell 2.78% or 10.20 points to trade at 356.80 at the close. Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:) declined 1.70% or 13.50 points to end at 780.00 and Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:) was down 1.25% or 5.50 points to 434.60.

    Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1159 to 586 and 647 ended unchanged.

    Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.18% or 31.14 to $2,672.14 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.64% or 1.89 to hit $73.61 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.34% or 1.75 to trade at $76.39 a barrel.

    GBP/USD was down 1.13% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.83.

    The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 109.09.
