In addition to having been an actor for 25 years, Abhishek Bachchan also wears the hat of a savvy businessman, proudly embracing the title of a ‘conservative’ investor. In a recent interaction, the Guru actor shared insights into his approach to investing in companies. Abhishek emphasised his enthusiasm for the “Make in India” initiative, expressing a strong focus on supporting Indian startups and companies. He also praised his niece, Navya Naveli Nanda, daughter of Shweta Bachchan, for returning to India after completing her studies abroad and striving to make a difference in her homeland.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 about his investment philosophy, Abhishek said, “With the family office, what is really exciting is the India story—companies coming out of India. The ‘Make in India’ initiative excites me. Gone are the days when we saw ourselves as inferior. Today, we are market leaders in whatever we do, and I love that confidence.”

Reflecting on generational shifts in thinking, Abhishek noted that when he was a teenager, the common mindset was to go to Europe or the USA to achieve success. However, he believes that is no longer the case, with young Indians increasingly choosing to pursue opportunities in their own country.

Abhishek expressed his surprise when Navya decided to return to India after studying in New York. He recounted her telling him, “I want to move back to India and make a difference here.” He added, “I love that, and I enjoy spending time with the younger generation. We can learn so much from them. It’s a passion to work with products that come out of India and eventually take them global.” Navya has also chosen to pursue higher education in India and is currently a student at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad.

When discussing the Bachchan family office and their approach to investments, Abhishek said, “I am very conservative. I don’t like to talk about it because I believe there is dignity in letting the work speak for itself. In business, I like to work with people who inspire me.”

    Festive offer

Abhishek also touched upon his investments in consumer brands, such as Naagin Hot Sauce and Vahdam Tea. “I stumbled upon Naagin Sauce and really liked it. I reached out to the boys behind the brand and said, ‘Hey, you’re Bandra boys—how do we take this ahead?’ It always starts with me being a consumer first.”
