Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri and Italy-invested ENI Natural Energies Vietnam have signed an MoU on carbon credit generation and agricultural feedstock.
Quang Tri’s acting Chairman Ha Sy Dong expects the cooperation can help both sides implement their international commitments of eco-friendly environment.
Quang Tri always facilitates investors, in order to reach its target of becoming an economic hub of the central and north-central regions of Vietnam, he said.
Giacomo Spadini, CEO of ENI Vietnam, said the firm seeks to receive more support from provincial authorities, especially in climate solutions and carbon credit, with the backing of local citizens.
The executive also highlighted Quang Tri’s advantages, including its My Thuy deep-water seaport and upcoming key energy projects.
Quang Tri is now home to 20 wind power projects totaling 742.2 MW, 11 hydropower ones of 167.5 MW, three solar power projects of 119.6 MW, and rooftop solar power of 90.2 MW. Overall, the province’s electricity capacity has reached over 1,100 MW.
In March 2022, ENI noted to Quang Tri province that it aimed to plant trees in the province as part of a carbon emission reduction move.
In April 2024, ENI said to Quang Tri authorities that it sought suitable areas in the province to plant trees, in order to generate feedstock for its bio refinery factory in Italy.
Prior to carbon emission reduction, ENI’s activities in Quang Tri included three exploration drills about 70 kilometers away from the province in 2019 and 2021.
