The company’s new assembly plant is located in Marysville, Union County.
Many of the 4,200 workers who walk through the plant’s doors every day are from Dayton and the Miami Valley.
Honda is three years, and 13 steps into converting an assembly line into a flexible line that can make gas-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and the new electric vehicles (EV).
“No other company than Honda would be able to continue to run production while we’re making this transformation,” Mike Fischer, Honda Large Project Leader said.
The company’s ability to switch between manufacturing gas-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and EVs protects employees as it avoids worker furloughs.
“A ton of interest in getting into the department, we actually have more interest than we can accept right now but our associates want to see what’s next and they know this is the future,” Tim Stroh, Project Leader for Honda EV Battery Case.
The Honda EV Hub is all around Dayton, with 3,000 engine plant workers in Anna, Shelby County, 4,200 workers in Marysville, 2,700 workers in East Liberty, and soon another 2,200 workers in Jeffersonville making EV batteries.
“We’re investing in our people, our associates are taking on new responsibilities Honda has never done before,” Bob Schwyn, Senior Vice President of Honda Development & Manufacturing said.
This entire effort is to help Honda remain successful in Ohio and protect jobs for thousands of people.
Honda is planning to roll their first EV cars off the line in November or December this year.
