SALT LAKE CITY — Students at Utah Tech University are hosting the eighth annual Personal Finance Day to help their community.

The students are part of the university’s finance club. They are hoping to use their knowledge to help people with managing their finances, building credit and making housing decisions. Through a series of speakers and workshops, the seminar will help attendees how to understand the current market.

The event will be held on Feb. 8 in Utah Tech’s Statera Financial Education Center, in room 121 of the Udvar-Hazy Building.

From noon to 2:30, the students will provide workshops and competition opportunities for Dixie High School students. Then, from 2:30 to 5:30, multiple speakers will provide a deeper look at economics.

The third and final speaker of the evening, Barry Minkow will deliver a lecture on how he, a “three-time convicted fraudster” uses “skills for good rather than evil.” Minkow went on to start The Fraud Discovery Institute and now assists legal authorities in investigating fraud schemes.

More information on Personal Finance Day can be found at Utah Tech’s website.
