A Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition Is Heading to Auction

No Time to Die was a high point in the ever-expanding James Bond universe, featuring a farewell to Daniel Craig’s version of the character and, of course, some incredible cars, too. Among them was the then-new Land Rover Defender, which inspired a limited-edition line of Bond Edition Defenders from Land Rover; now, one of them is up for grabs.

The Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition up for auction at Historics is one of just 10 that was sold in the U.K., and has had only one owner since its original purchase. Under the hood is a V-8 making 518 horsepower and powering the car to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 149 mph, the most powerful production Defender ever made. Speed was never the point of the Defender though, instead off-road capability, which No Time to Die displayed in a chase sequence with multiple flying Defenders.

Interested in owning one yourself? As Historics notes, the Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition cars aren’t the cars from the film, which were presumably heavily damaged during shooting. But the Bond Edition Defenders are what might be the next best thing. Just 300 of the Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Bond Editions were built in total, and Bond-specific touches are found throughout the car. The example up for auction has just 384 miles on the odometer.

“The infotainment system was fitted with a custom start-up screen to commemorate Land Rover’s long-lasting relations with the Bond franchise and the interior featured ‘Defender 007’ treadplates and all-black seating,” Historics says in its listing. “The car also sports exterior 007 graphic puddle lights.”

    Historics

Historics gives a high estimate of £155,000 for this particular Defender 110 V8 Bond Edition, or about $196,000 at current exchange rates. That’s a fairly significant premium on the car’s original sticker price, which started at $114,600. That premium might also reflect that the Defenders, when new, were hard to come by, depending on where you happened to live in the world, and as one of just 10 for Britain, this one can claim to be rare. A buyer can also say that their car wasn’t for Bond but for the villains chasing him, adding its own appeal.
