The Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) issues list of bank holidays for each month. As March has begun, many customers will carry out their important banking related works. Indian banks will remain closed for a long weekend next week.

Each month, all private, government, cooperative, and other banks remain closed on all Sundays, as well as the second and fourth Saturdays. Furthermore, bank holidays in India vary by state, however some are observed nationally. Hence, it becomes important for the customers to know when the banks will remain open or closed in March.

The apex bank releases a state-wise holiday calendar each year. The RBI holiday calendar includes national events and regional festivals every year. Here’s the list of holidays falling in March.

    Bank holidays in March

In March 2025, banks in India—both state-owned and private—will remain closed for up to eight days, in addition to Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Some of the holidays include those for Holi, Holika Dahan, Chapchar Kut, Bihar Diwas, Ramadan (Ramzan), and more.

The Reserve Bank of India has set the following bank holidays for March 2025:

    March 7 – Chapchar Kut

    March 13 – Holika Dahan/Attukal Pongala

    March 14 – Holi (Second Day) – Dhuleti/Dhulandi/Dol Jatra

    March 15 – Holi/Yaosang 2nd Day

    March 22 – Bihar Diwas

    March 27 – Shab-I-Qadr

    March 28 – Jumat-ul-Vida

    March 31 – Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr) (Shawal-1)/Khutub-E-Ramzan

Customers should note that these holidays are based on the Negotiable Instruments Act, which impacts the processing of cheques and promissory notes, so these services will not be available on the specified bank holidays.

Despite bank holidays, customers can carry out many transactions using alternative banking methods, such as – ATMs for cash withdrawals, online banking for fund transfers, bill payments, and account management, mobile banking apps for quick transactions, UPI and Digital Wallets for payments and money transfers.

However, to access and use digital banking services, customers must first complete the registration process with their respective bank. Simply having a bank account does not automatically grant access to online or mobile banking facilities. If you haven’t registered for digital banking services, contact your bank.
