The EU Commission’s steel and metals action plan promises European industry rapid protection against cheap imports. There is criticism of the measures on energy prices.
The EU Commission wants to adapt the “steel safeguards” on April 1, which are intended to protect the European steel industry from cheap imports from Asia. This was announced by Commission Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné on Wednesday at an initial presentation of the Commission’s steel and metals action plan. The steel safeguards will be tightened to maintain effectiveness and take account of recent market developments, according to the final version of the plan. “Our goal is to reduce imports by up to 15 percent,” said Séjourné, without providing further details.
