    India is setting the wheels in motion to operationalize the voluntary offset trading element of the country’s upcoming carbon market — a closely watched initiative given the country’s role as a growing energy user and emitter and its strategic efforts to make the market ready for international cooperation. Officials have been issuing procedures and methodologies for the offset mechanism, in what some experts see becoming a $50 billion carbon credit market when both compliance and offset credits are considered.
