Cambodia and AFoCO Set to Sign New MoU to Enhance Carbon Credit InitiativesCambodia and AFoCO Set to Sign New MoU to Enhance Carbon Credit Initiatives

In a significant move towards sustainable forest management, Cambodia is poised to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFoCO). This collaboration is aimed at enhancing the management of carbon credits from forests, which is expected to reinforce reforestation efforts and improve forest fire prevention strategies across the nation.

This announcement was made during a key meeting held on June 10, 2025, which featured the participation of His Excellency Keo O’Mallison, Secretary of State, and Dr. Park Chongho, Executive Director of AFoCO. The discussions revolved around four essential agenda items that underline Cambodia’s commitment to effective environmental management:

    1. The integration of REDD+ projects to bolster forest protection and conservation.
    2. Initiatives for agroforestry carbon credit projects.
    3. Forward-thinking afforestation projects.
    4. Grant-in-aid programs to support cutting-edge research in the forestry sub-sector.

The meeting culminated in an agreement to enhance collaboration and move forward with the upcoming MoU focused on developing and implementing forest carbon credits, advancing reforestation efforts, and ensuring effective forest fire management. This initiative aims to guarantee sustainable forest management practices and promote long-term ecological health in Cambodia.

The impending agreement between Cambodia and AFoCO is set to pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future, potentially transforming the landscape of forest management in the region.
