    • ByteDance purchased over 100,000 Rubicon Carbon Tonnes® to help meet its 2030 carbon neutrality goal.
    • The credits include a mix of nature-based and carbon removal projects, ensuring both near-term and long-term impact.
    • The deal reinforces growing corporate demand for high-quality, science-backed carbon credits.

ByteDance, the global tech company behind TikTok, has purchased the right to retire over 100,000 tonnes of carbon credits through Rubicon Carbon’s flagship offering, the Rubicon Carbon Tonne® (RCT). The purchase supports ByteDance’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and reflects a broader push among global firms for credible climate action.

Rubicon Carbon Tonnes are portfolios of rigorously vetted carbon credits sourced from projects across nature-based solutions, super pollutant mitigation, and carbon removal technologies. These credits are actively managed to ensure performance, transparency, and resilience to price and supply volatility.

The RCTs acquired by ByteDance combine immediate-impact nature-based avoidance credits with long-duration carbon removal, allowing the company to balance short-term mitigation with long-term environmental integrity.

“ByteDance’s decision to invest in RCTs signals a serious, long-term commitment to climate leadership and a recognition that the path to net zero must be built on high-quality, durable carbon solutions,” said Tom Montag, CEO of Rubicon Carbon. “We’re proud to play a role in helping them meet that goal.”

ByteDance plans to cut at least 90% of its operational emissions, using carbon credits to offset the remaining 10%. Rubicon provided education and advisory support to help ByteDance make informed choices in the voluntary carbon market.

“We greatly appreciate the time and expertise that the Rubicon Carbon team invested to help us make high-value and impactful decisions within the carbon credit landscape,” said Ian Gill, Global Head of Sustainability at ByteDance. “This purchase marks an important step in that journey, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Rubicon Carbon.”

The deal adds to Rubicon Carbon’s growing reputation as a reliable partner for corporations seeking scalable, science-driven solutions to meet net-zero targets.
