ByteDance, the tech giant behind TikTok, has purchased over 100,000 tonnes of carbon credits through Rubicon Carbon’s signature product, the Rubicon Carbon Tonne® (RCT), as part of its strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2030. The move signals the company’s commitment to high-quality, science-backed carbon offsetting.

The Rubicon Carbon Tonne bundles a portfolio of rigorously vetted carbon credits drawn from global initiatives focused on nature-based solutions, super pollutant mitigation, and carbon removal.

Rubicon’s team of scientists actively manage and verify the quality of these credits, helping buyers lock in today’s prices while ensuring strong climate outcomes.

ByteDance’s purchase includes a blend of credits that provide both immediate emissions avoidance and long-term carbon removal benefits.

As part of its climate roadmap, the company plans to cut at least 90% of its direct emissions, using credits to offset the remainder.

Rubicon Carbon also supported ByteDance throughout the purchasing process, offering strategic guidance and education to ensure confidence in their voluntary market investments.

“We are thrilled to welcome ByteDance as a buyer of Rubicon Carbon Tonnes,” said Tom Montag, CEO of Rubicon Carbon.

“ByteDance’s decision to invest in RCTs signals a serious, long-term commitment to climate leadership and a recognition that the path to net zero must be built on high-quality, durable carbon solutions. We’re proud to play a role in helping them meet that goal.”
