    • TotalEnergies partners with NativState to conserve 100,000 hectares of U.S. forestland across four states, supporting sustainable forestry and local communities.
    • All carbon credits from the project will be certified by ACR and used by TotalEnergies from 2030 to offset residual Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
    • Over 280 private landowners gain access to voluntary carbon markets and forest management support, enhancing biodiversity and economic resilience.

TotalEnergies has signed a major agreement with Arkansas-based forest carbon developer NativState to conserve approximately 100,000 hectares (247,000 acres) of forestland in the U.S., spanning Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The deal includes 13 Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects involving over 280 private family forest landowners.

The initiative is designed to prevent land conversion and heavy timber harvesting—common practices in the region—by providing landowners with a sustainable revenue stream tied to carbon credit generation. Through this collaboration, TotalEnergies aims to enhance carbon sinks while preserving biodiversity and improving forest health.

“TotalEnergies confirms its commitment to support the conservation and enhancement of carbon sinks, with local value creation,” said Adrien Henry, Vice President Nature Based Solutions at TotalEnergies. “We are thrilled to support NativState to scale up their operations, directly benefiting the environment and their local communities.”

The partnership will implement a range of sustainable forestry practices, including protecting high conservation value areas, enhancing species diversity, improving streamside management, and maintaining wildlife corridors. In addition to environmental gains, small landowners will benefit from forestry education, technical support, and access to voluntary carbon markets.

All carbon credits generated will be certified by the American Carbon Registry (ACR), ensuring international recognition and credibility. TotalEnergies will acquire the credits and begin using them in 2030 to voluntarily offset part of its remaining Scope 1 and 2 emissions, following its priority focus on emission avoidance and reduction.

“We, at NativState, are honored and deeply grateful for our partnership with TotalEnergies and our forest landowner families, which creates extraordinary opportunities to build a lasting legacy for small forest landowners in our communities across the southern United States while supporting TotalEnergies in addressing the challenges of global energy markets,” said Stuart Allen, NativState Founder and CEO. “It is a privilege to empower these landowners to embrace sustainable forestry practices, cultivating healthier lands and stronger communities for generations to come.”
