Carbon registry Isometric has verified and certified the first-ever enhanced weathering (EW) carbon credits.
This move marks an important advancement in the field of carbon dioxide removal (CDR), as it affirms EW as a credible and reliable pathway for obtaining high-quality CO2 removal.
The pioneering EW carbon credits correspond to the carbon removal activity of InPlanet’s Serra da Mantiqueira project in Brazil.
Using its rigorous Enhanced Weathering Protocol, Isometric verified these carbon credits, performing measurements to prove that carbon dioxide was in fact removed from the atmosphere.
In line with the protocol, Isometric reviewed samplings, direct soil and porewater measurements, and chemical analysis of control and treatment plots, confirming the effectiveness of the EW process.
The carbon credits were then delivered to payments company Ayden, with the help of CO2 removal portfolio management platform ClimeFi.
Enhanced weathering has been recognized as a hopeful method for removing atmospheric carbon emissions.
Through the spreading of crushed rocks or minerals on farmland, EW enables a process that removes CO2 from the atmosphere, pulling it down into the soil from where it will eventually find its way to rivers and oceans, where it will be securely stored for more than 10,000 years.
Besides being low-cost and applicable in many settings, EW also brings other valuable benefits such as soil health improvement, better crops and job opportunities in rural communities.

While holding great decarbonization potential, the widespread adoption of this technology has been lagging behind due to the lack of reliable monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) tools to account for its real-world effect.
By verifying the carbon credits issued by InPlanet, Isometric is opening up a new chapter for EW, solidifying its status as a credible pathway for achieving high-quality, durable carbon removal.
According to Isometric Founder and CEO, Eamon Jubbawy, these enhanced weathering credits are a key step to scaling carbon removal.
He commented, “The transparent data behind these credits shows that Isometric’s high-quality, verified EW credits represent a tonne of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere and should be a key part of every CDR buyer’s portfolio.”
