TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WBAY) – The mother of Elijah Vue, Katrina Baur, released a statement through her attorney following news of her son’s remains being found.
“Katrina Baur is devastated by the most recent news, identifying the remains found as Elijah,” Baur’s attorney, Amber Gratz, said in a statement emailed to Action 2 News. “She had continued to have hope that her little boy would be found alive. At this time, she is mourning the loss of her son.”
Two Rivers Police confirmed last week that human remains found on private property are missing child Elijah Vue. The remains were found by a hunter preparing his land for the upcoming hunting season.
Baur remains behind bars facing a charge of child neglect, accused of abusing Elijah.
Jesse Vang, Baur’s boyfriend, reported Elijah missing on February 20 while the boy was staying with him. According to a criminal complaint, Elijah spent time with Vang as “punishment” for bad behavior, and Baur, who is from Wisconsin Dells, wanted Vang to teach her 3-year-old “to be a man.”
Vang and Katrina Baur face charges of felony child neglect, and Baur is also accused of obstructing police. Both pleaded not guilty, and their cases are still going through the justice system.
Baur has tried a couple of times to have her bond reduced, but those requests were denied.
However, last month, a judge modified Baur’s bond to allow supervised contact with her children.
Her next court appearance is in October.
