Lindsey Vogel has been looking to buy her first home since February of this year. She hasn’t had any luck. In Burke Centre, Va., where she’s actively looking, Vogel hasn’t found anything that would persuade her to seal the deal. Another issue is mortgage rates, which have hovered over 6% for the past month — a far cry from the…

Building passive income drives many investors toward dividend-paying stocks. Smart investors look beyond current yields to companies that consistently raise their payouts year after year, allowing a modest initial investment to grow into a substantial income stream over time. The most successful dividend growers share three essential traits. A conservative payout ratio ensures the dividend remains sustainable through various business cycles. A history of annual increases demonstrates financial strength and a commitment to shareholders. Strong business fundamentals protect the cash flows that fund these growing payments. Energy is among the most volatile sectors on Wall Street, but there’s a nuance to the industry that is very important. That’s particularly true if you are a dividend investor in search of reliable high-yield stocks. A great example of a stock dividend investors might prefer to avoid is Devon Energy (NYSE: DVN), while Enterprise Products Partners (NYSE: EPD) and Enbridge (NYSE: ENB) are two options that could be well worth examining. Here’s why. A gushing oil well is the first thing that a lot of investors will think about when you say the words “energy sector.” That’s not wrong,…

Which is why buying an industry leader like Chevron (NYSE: CVX) is probably the best choice for most investors. Here’s what you need to know. (Reuters) – China’s Alibaba said on Friday it had agreed to pay $433.5 million to settle a U.S. class-action lawsuit filed by investors alleging monopolistic practices by the e-commerce giant. Alibaba denied wrongdoing, saying it entered the settlement to avoid the cost and disruption of further litigation. The proposed settlement was filed in federal court in Manhattan and requires the approval of U.S. District Judge George Daniels. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, alleged that Alibaba claimed it did not violate anti-monopoly or unfair competition laws, despite requiring merchants to choose only one distribution platform. The settlement covers investors in Alibaba’s…
