Image source: Getty Images Income stocks have become my comfort blanket in recent years. And right now, they’re warming up nicely. While the US tech sector has done most of the running over the past decade, traditional FTSE 100 income stocks are finding a new audience. Rising interest rates reminded investors that dividends matter. And with markets more jittery than ever, I’ve rediscovered the joys of solid shareholder payouts. Here are three big takeaways from my own investing experience. 1. Double-digit yields aren’t always dangerous I’ve loaded up on UK financials such as Phoenix Group Holdings, Legal & General Group and M&G. Each has offered yields…

Details of the government’s intentions for funding infrastructure projects were contained in its new 10-year infrastructure strategy published on Thursday. I snapped them up in 2023, when they looked dirt cheap, trading at just six or seven times earnings and yielding almost 7%. Pretty quickly, I was sitting on a 40% gain and slapping myself on the back. Turned out I’d punched myself in the face. The share price is down 18% over the last 12 months. Most of the damage came in the second half of 2024, when it became clear that interest rate cuts weren’t arriving as quickly…

Markets aren’t oblivious to geopolitical risks, but need more to change course. Data shows that Dutch pension funds are adding interest hedges as they prepare for the reforms. Only after transitioning do we anticipate a significant unwind in longer-dated hedges. Geopolitical risks pop up everywhere, but don’t change the broader market view The Bank of England kept rates on hold yesterday, with a voting split of six for a hold and three for a 25bp cut – a mildly dovish surprise. But as with the outcome for the Federal Reserve, the market impact from the decision was limited, with central…
