Among those present was Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who was part of a focus on a crackdown on the tech industry in recent years.Xi told the audience that the Communist Party and the government’s approach towards the private sector has been incorporated into “the socialist system with Chinese characteristics,” which is…

Image source: Getty Images For a mature FTSE 250 stock to have a double-digit percentage move in a day, something big is usually going on. So when I saw the news this morning regarding Assura (LSE:AGR), it naturally caught my attention. Here’s what investors need to know and what I’m thinking about doing from here. The long story short Before we get into things, let’s run through the story with Assura. The real-estate investment trust (REIT) has been performing poorly over the past few years. Even though the stock is only down 7% in the last year, it’s down 37%…

Earlier this year, I wrote about an experiment performed by some researchers at Dartmouth College who let reindeer pick stocks from the Wall Street Journal. The reindeer did quite well in the first month after picking their stocks and managed to outperform the S&P 500 by 4.9%. As 2021 draws to a close, it’s time to check up on those reindeer since they are now preparing for another Christmas Eve sleigh ride and will presumably be busy delivering presents rather than reading the Journal and adjusting their portfolios. Though as we will see, come of them might want to sell…

Inflation remains elevated, meaning the Fed isn’t likely to cut rates soon.If inflation stays unchecked, rate hikes might become a possibility down the road. Here’s how investing experts are navigating a higher-for-longer interest-rate environment.Even before the January CPI report showed that inflation was running hot at 3% year over year, Wall Street was already bracing for higher-for-longer interest rates. The new inflation numbers likely only confirmed the belief of many investors and strategists that rate cuts are off the table until at least September.”If the Fed cuts interest rates too early, it increases the likelihood that we will see a repeat of…

Image source: Getty Images According to data from AJ Bell and Hargreaves Lansdown, UK investors have been busy snapping up shares of Vodafone (LSE: VOD). Indeed, this was the most bought FTSE 100 stock on both platforms last week (based on the number of deals placed by customers). Should I follow the crowd and invest too? Here are my thoughts. Concerns To form my decision, I’m going to look at a few key things. The first is the share price trend. Now, this isn’t a dealbreaker one way or the other. But it does tell me whether investors have been…

Image source: Getty Images Rather than invest in UK shares, according to the Financial Times, savers have decided to put £276bn into bank accounts that don’t pay any interest. In my opinion, with inflation constantly eroding the value of money, this isn’t a sensible decision. People probably view it as a ‘risk-free’ option, believing that a bank or building society is unlikely to go bust. And even if one did, the government’s Financial Services Compensation Scheme protects deposits up to £85,000. I suspect these savers consider themselves to be risk-averse. But it’s undeniable that the real value of their cash…
