Image source: Getty Images Global equities have underperformed in 2025. At the heart of the weakness has been a sell-off in the ‘Magnificent 7’ growth stocks, which are some of the largest stocks in the market. For long-term investors, I think there could be a major investment opportunity here right now. Here’s why I believe that now is the time to consider buying selected mega tech stocks. Prone to volatility The Magnificent 7 have all been phenomenal long-term investments. Over the last 20 years, these stocks have made investors a lot of money. They do tend to exhibit volatility at…

USD/CAD oscillates inside Thursday’s trading range around 1.4330. The Fed is in no hurry to move to interest rate cuts amid elevated consumer inflation expectations. Market experts see the BoC reducing interest rates again in April. The USD/CAD pair ticks higher to near 1.4330 in European trading hours on Friday but remains inside Thursday’s trading range. The Loonie pair is marginally higher even though the US Dollar (USD) trades strongly, suggesting the Canadian Dollar (CAD) also trades firmly. Canadian Dollar PRICE Today The table below shows the percentage change of Canadian Dollar (CAD) against listed major currencies today. Canadian Dollar…
Image source: Getty Images Right now, shares in Rolls-Royce (LSE:RR) come with a dividend yield of 0.74%. That’s not particularly high, but analysts are expecting some strong growth over the next few years. I think, however, there’s a lot of uncertainty around the amount the firm is going to return to shareholders. And that means investors should be very wary about relying on forecasts. Dividend growth This year, Rolls-Royce looks set to distribute 6p per share (that’s strictly the 2024 dividend). With the stock at £8.15, that’s doesn’t exactly stand out. Yet analysts are expecting the dividend to reach 10.03p…
Carbon-crediting platform Puro.earth announced that it has achieved the issuance of more than 1 million CO2 removal certificates – representing more than 1 million tonnes of verified carbon removal – following a significant acceleration in the market over the past several months. Founded in 2018, and acquired by Nasdaq in 2021, Puro.earth provides a platform bringing together suppliers of carbon net-negative technologies and companies looking to reduce or counter their carbon footprints. Through Puro.earth’s platform, and based on its carbon credit methodologies, suppliers that remove CO2 from the atmosphere to durable storage of at least 100 years are certified and…
Danaher shares are finally trading at a more attractive valuation, according to Goldman Sachs. Analyst Matthew Sykes upgraded Danaher to buy from neutral and set a 12-month price target of $260, which implies 23.7% potential upside. Shares of the global conglomerate, known for its biotech, diagnostics, and life sciences businesses, are down 8.4% year to date and more than 16.5% over the past year. The comedown in 2025 consensus earnings expectations on Danaher, particularly in its biotech segment, have led to more realistic growth expectations for the company, Sykes said. “With conviction in a bioprocessing recovery and long term growth, a…
The carbon tax is on life support, writes Jack Mintz. (Credit: POSTMEDIA NEWS ARCHIVES) Is the carbon tax dead in Canada? Yet-to-be-elected Prime Minister Mark Carney has not actually eliminated the fuel charge paid by consumers and low-emitting businesses, which only Parliament can do. But he has lowered its rate to zero. On the other hand, he intends to raise carbon taxes on big emitters. This week, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre upped his “axe the tax” ante to the federal tax on big emitters but would leave the provinces and territories in charge of their own schemes. How did we…
Image source: Getty Images The Unilever (LSE: ULVR) share price may be up 18% in a year, but scratch the surface and things are not all well at this consumer goods giant. The previous CEO was barely in the job 18 months when the board fired him last month. With a change of direction afoot, is now the right time for me to consider investing? Misfiring strategy At the heart of the company’s recent problems is a baffling, complicated strategy. A few years ago, star investor Terry Smith accused it of being more interested in sustainability credentials than building shareholder…
Knowing the value of assets is the bread and butter of private equity firms. However, this market has a growing demand for transparency, let alone fairness. Investors aren’t the only ones pressing those issues, as the US Securities and Exchange Commission has extended its oversight and resources to investigate predatory practices in private equity. That’s when third-party valuation comes into play. It’s too soon to say it’s a common practice among private equity firms, as less than 25% currently outsource valuation services. Yet, it’s a rising trend in this market that can ultimately change investment decisions for big and small…
Image source: Getty Images A Lloyds Banking Group (LSE: LLOY) share price of 80p would mean a rise of more than 10%. But what would it say about the valuation? Well, it would push the forecast price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio for 2025 up to 12. That’s not much below the long-term FTSE 100 average, and it might not leave much safety room for the current economic outlook. And that, in case anybody hadn’t noticed, is not the best it’s ever been. It could drop the forecast dividend yield down to 4% too. But the dividend is what’s kept us Lloyds shareholders…
